This is a long exposure taken on Lake Michigan just before the rain on a cloudy day. When I look at the seemingly still water under the clouds just before a light rain, I am reminded of the sound of light waves and simply think, "calm."

On September 1st, 2020, the Full Moon began to set behind the Manistee North Pierhead Lighthouse. This photo is the result of blending a quick exposure for the moon with long exposures to get the lighthouse. The long exposure also picked up the lights of boats passing by as they bounced over Lake Michigan's waves.

This photo is the result of mounting my camera on a tripod and maintaining the position while capturing photos for a couple hours. 86 star trail images were stacked and combined with images of the first boat that passed by.

I took this photo during the Coast Guard Festival in Grand Haven on a summer evening. This photo is the result of combining multiple images of boats passing by after the sun set. I never know how boat light trails are going to turn out exactly since it depends on what boats pass by, but I love the light trails created by a sailboat that had lights on the top and middle of its mast.

This photo is the result of some long exposures just after sunset in Charlevoix along the Round Lake Channel, looking out towards the South Pier Lighthouse and Lake Michigan. The long exposures feature blurred silhouettes of people walking the piers and light trails from a boat that passed by.

South Haven Lighthouse with Crescent Moon and Boat Lights - 3x2 Ratio

This photo is a blend of multiple exposures taken over the course of an hour on the evening of September 9th, 2021. I took a shot shortly after sunset when the sky was pink and blended it with a later shot of the moon as it was setting over Lake Michigan. In between the early shot and the later moon shot I captured long-exposure light trails from a charter boat that was cruising by. The boat was moving so slowly that the lights produced loops as it bobbed over the waves.
